| What is 'Toastmasters Club' ? 'Toastmasters Club' is an US-based international NPO with the purposes of improving leadership and public speaking (speaking in front of the audience) skills. Currently, 330,000 members in 135 countries and regions in the world join the clubs most suitable for them from more than 14,000 clubs and are learning worldwide. ☑️Speaking in front of the audience, having no stage fright ☑️Creating a logical speech ☑️Improving a speech in Japanese ☑️Improving a speech in English and having opportunities to speak English ☑️Interacting with people of different nationalities, with different vocations and in different positions ☑️Polishing leadership skills Participating in Toastmaster's activities enables you to get the following abilities. ☑️Delivering good impromptu speeches, evaluation speeches as well as prepared speeches.And simultaneously, you will secure abilities to evaluate those speeches. ☑️Improving an ability of how to structure the speech well, the skill of which applies for business talks, presentations and even chats with friends. ☑️Building up broad social networks due to the members’ different backgrounds, such as nationalities, occupations and positions. ☑️Being a Toastmasters club member might give you high status in English- speaking countries. ☑️Learning leadership skills by taking chairmanship of regular meetings, other meeting roles, also acting as a committee member for special events What is the ‘Toastmasters Spring Speech Contest 2016’? We hold speech contests twice a year in spring and autumn both in English and Japanese. The contest held in spring is called the ‘International Speech Contest’ in which the champion in the English speech contest can proceed to the world stage competition for the international championship. While the autumnal speech is either of evaluation, impromptu, humorous or tall tale speech contest. Now, the contest held in the spring of 2016 is the ‘International Speech Contest’. Outstanding speakers from all over Japan, who have won club level, following area level and then division level contests, will participate in this spring contest to compete for championship on who can attract the audience most deeply. Furthermore, workshops for public speaking and leadership will be conducted by well-experienced lecturers, and also our welcome party full of fun should not be missed. This event will also provide you with great opportunities to witness the very exciting moment of selecting the best speaker in Japan, and at the same time to meet a former world champion and now the International President, Jim Kokocki, DTM, who will join this event as our special guest from overseas. Frequently asked questions ■Can non- club- members participate in this event? Yes, you can. If you feel that Toastmasters’ activities are meaningful to you by joining the Spring Speech Contest, please visit a Toastmasters club that interests you. It is 100% sure that you will be most welcome. ■Can I have a chance to deliver a speech in the Spring Speech Contest? No. In the Spring Speech Contest, only speakers who have won through the preliminary contests and officers of the conference will be given an opportunity to speak, but non-club-members will have no chance to speak. However, you can have and enjoy conversations with many other participants during the break time, welcome party, and the like. You are strongly recommended to take such opportunities to make social communication, and feel deep meaningfulness of Toastmasters. ■Can more than one person apply for the participation? Yes, of course. However, since we don’t employ a group application system, each person is requested to fill in and submit the application form, respectively. ■What can we learn in the Spring Speech Contest? In the Spring Speech Contest, outstanding speakers who have won through preliminary contests will deliver their speeches. You can learn various basic speaking skills including the way of speech production, how to put pauses and effective body language by observing the top-ranked speakers. In addition, workshops conducted by leaders equipped with high leadership skills will be available as well. You can learn what speech-making and leadership are in this event. |
